1969 Jaguar 420

Jaguar 420

The 420 was aimed at the market segment that Jaguar felt the slow selling 420G had missed by being too large or expensive for the times. The opulent 420 G was the widest passenger car ever built in Britain and represented the end of an era: the times of energy-wasting and economic carelessness. The same powerful 4.2 litre engine, originally taken from the E-Type, was used for the 420, which was similar to the 420 G in many other ways as well. The 420 was just a little shorter, not quite as wide and not quite as heavy - thus it was actually faster than the 420 G, while being almost equally elegant and spacious.
